About Jerre Blodgett

I never set out to write a four-book series about my early life.

I began writing because I wanted my family to know the stories—the stories of Cotton Lake, in the heart of northern Minnesota's wild lake country. Stories about my pal, King, a malamute-shepherd sled dog with an irresistible urge to pull me across frozen landscapes, through forests, and into challenging snowstorms. Stories of summer adventures, frozen winters, lifelong friendships, hard lessons, and the people who shaped my life.

And stories about the loons. Their haunting cries drifted across the water at dawn and echoed through the stillness of evening. The ancient Ojibwe told legends of a loon that helped create the world when others had failed. As a boy, I simply loved hearing their calls. Looking back, I have come to see them as something more—a reminder of the adventures, challenges, discoveries, and opportunities that were quietly shaping the course of a life.

Like many families, ours shared stories around dinner tables, picnic tables, campfires, and holiday gatherings. I wanted to preserve them before they slipped away. What began as a gift for my family eventually grew into The Call of the Loon, a four-book saga inspired by true events and remembered experiences from my childhood in that wonderland I called home. At its heart, the series is about the calls that shape every life—calls to adventure, courage, discovery, and purpose.

Along the way, I discovered that these stories belonged not only to my family, but to anyone who remembers a loyal dog, a first love, a trusted mentor, or a moment that changed the course of a life.

I am also the author of the Emerald Triangle thriller series, which explores a very different kind of adventure. Whether writing suspense or memoir-inspired stories, I am drawn to characters facing difficult choices and discovering strengths they never knew they possessed. Today, I live in Southern California with my wife, Cathy.

I continue to write, tell stories, and encourage others to preserve their own memories for future generations. After all, every life begins with a call—and every life has a story worth telling.
